Have you ever found something that you got really excited about doing? You set a start date and declare that you are finally going to do it. The day comes. You jump in super gung-ho and it turns out really great. The second day comes with slightly less excitement. All of a sudden you realize that it’s been 3 weeks since you started and you only completed those first two days??
Well. That is what happened to me with my fitness. This post will briefly cover that story and will go into my new plan for getting back on track. I will also share my current metrics and my goal for where I want to be. Let’s jump in!
Three months ago I decided to start working out again. I knew that I couldn’t afford the gym that I was going to previously so I was going to work out in my barn. I have literally no equipment and can’t afford any so I needed to find a good body-weight workout program.
Today is January 2nd. It is going to be my first day working out again in about about 5 months. A month or so ago when I made my decision to start working out again I was trying to figure out the best way to get back in to it. The reason that I stopped in the first place was finances. My situation has not changed since then so I need to either 1) work out at home or 2) find a very inexpensive gym. My initial decision was to work out at home – outside in my barn. I then began my search for the bodyweight workout.
I finally settled on Kinobody’s Bodyweight Mastery Program. This program is a $39 course. With the purchase you get videos breaking down each workout so that you know proper technique. The course also comes with access to the blog so that you have a community of support. I also really like his concept of intermittent fasting since it fits my lifestyle and is an easier nutrition plan for me to follow. Since I needed a new approach to nutrition also, I decided to begin his nutrition routine, also. If you want to learn more about it, check out his article on it here: Intermittent Fasting Guide. Greg O’Gallagher has a great approach to intermittent fasting which utilizes caffeine as a strategy. Caffeine has been shown to reduce hunger during periods of fasting. I love coffee. This particular routine is perfect for me! However, if you’re interested in intermittent fasting, you may want to do your own research and decide for yourself which plan is best for your needs/desires.
So I purchased the workout and was very excited to finally get started. I’ve always wanted to be able to do lots of push-ups, pull-ups, cool bodyweight movements, etc. and finally I was taking steps towards this goal. I got everything ready the night before my first workout. I woke up, grabbed my carbonated water and headed out to the barn. Half-way through workout, however, I realized that I actually did need some minimal equipment in order to do this program. I decided to do as much as I could without this equipment. I would continue to do what I was able and in the meantime I was going to build a bench or whatever other equipment I needed.
That was about 2 months ago. I only completed the first 2 workouts and then quit. I never had the motivation to build any equipment or even find another workout program. I did stick to the nutrition plan, however, and with intermittent fasting, lost about 5 lbs.
So now here we are. It is the second day of 2017. News Years resolutions are in full swing. I need to do something now. So today is my first day back. I decided to go back to the bodyweight program since I already purchased it. Also, I will be going back to Planet Fitness since it is only $10/mo and they have a new sign-up deal where you only pay $1 to sign up (normally the fee is like $50 or something). I took my measurements before going to the gym and also my “before” picture for my entry package. Here are my current measurements and status towards my ideal body:
Body weight: 264.2 lbs
Body fat %: ≈ 32.5%
Lean body mass: 178.3 lbs
Bicep: 14.25″ – average between the two (goal: 18.75″)
Chest: 46.25″ (goal: 48.75″)
Shoulder circumference: 51.5″ (goal: 76.57″)
Upper legs: 27.56″ (goal: 30.1875″)
Calves: 18.13″ (goal: 18.75″)

In a couple months, I will start posting pictures of my progress. I know I said that I would be open and honest, but I am super uncomfortable with my current status, which is why I am starting this new journey. Trust me – you’re better off not seeing it right now anyways.
